The Young and The Restless spoilers and updates reveal in a recent interview with General Hospital’s Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) on his State of Mind podcast, Mark Grossman auditioned for GH.

Let’s take it back to where it all began… Grossman always wanted to be a professional motocross racer but when that didn’t pan out, he started out his career as a model.

Mark Grossman Didn’t Just Start Out His Career As Adam Newman!

It’s not surprising that many celebrities auditioned for different roles at the start of their daytime careers.

Some secured the roles they aimed for immediately, while others found themselves portraying various characters across different soap operas, even on entirely different networks.

This is true for Mark Grossman, who currently plays Adam Newman on The Young and The Restless.

Initially signed with his first agency, he discovered they also handled acting and requested to be sent on auditions, despite not even knowing what a monologue was.

The auditions were held in Arizona, where he resided, and after relocating to Los Angeles, he landed several projects.

Grossman Had Auditioned Once For The CBS Soap, Twice For GH

During the day, Grossman revealed, “I had tried out for Y&R at least once before and auditioned for General Hospital a few times as well.” He expressed his gratitude towards Mark Teschner, the casting director for the ABC soap, for believing in him and bringing him to meet the producers.

“He holds a special place in my heart, and I think I auditioned for them a few times,” in addition to Y&R, before finally securing the iconic role of Adam. Regarding his role at CBS, he shared, “I was completely lost because I had never been on a soap opera set before, with all the various little sets. I think they even squeezed my screen test in between scenes. I was just so overwhelmed.”

It’s easy to understand why, especially since he auditioned alongside three of the show’s biggest names: Sharon Case (Sharon Newman), Joshua Morrow (Nick Newman), and Gina Tognoni (formerly Phyllis Summers).

Mark Is The Sixth Actor To Play Adam Newman

If you count the infant and childhood versions of Adam, Mark is the sixth actor to play the iconic role.

Previous actors were Hayden Tank, Chris Engen, Michael Muhney, Justin Hartley (no wonder that Tracker guy looks familiar) and Dane West played Adam in flashbacks in 2020.

This was when Adam started having flashbacks and PTSD symptoms about killing his abusive stepfather at age thirteen, and Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) had covered it up.

This was also the same year when at least temporarily, Adam and Nick made peace when the old Kansas farmhouse fell victim to a tornado, and they were trapped.

Adam saved Nick’s life, and when they got back to Genoa City, he saved Faith Newman’s (Reylynn Caster) by donating a kidney.
