Beloved actor and singer, Beth Peters, known for her recurring role as Mrs. Whitaker on the popular ABC soap opera “General Hospital,” has died at the age of 92.
Beth Peters passed away on March 14 in central Florida after a brief illness.
Peters made a lasting impression with her appearances in eight episodes of the ABC soap opera during the early 1980s.
In an obituary for the late actress provided to Variety by her son, her character description reads, “The motherly Mrs. Whitaker dispensed country wisdom from her farm kitchen in Beecher’s Corners, serving as a surrogate mother to Laura Spencer, played by Genie Francis, as the teenager’s story arc saw her fall in love with Luke Spencer, portrayed by Anthony Geary.”
Beth Peters’ Career:
Peters started her illustrious acting and singing career during her teenage years in coastal New Jersey. Her remarkable journey includes a debut on Broadway in 1955, starting as an extra in the play “Inherit the Wind”. She later assumed the role of Mrs. Brady during the final months of the show’s run.
Beth Peters’ television portfolio boasts an array of credits. This includes; Quantum Leap, Beyond Belief, Hart to Hart, Simon and Simon, The Waltons and more. Her silver screen presence is equally notable, with appearances in Where Love Has Gone, Fitzwilly, Kandyland, and Back to School.
Beth Peters is survived by her son Sean Williams, step-daughters Barbara Davison (Don) and Monica Lange, as well as nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Jack Danon, an accomplished actor, who passed away in 1996. We send our love and condolences to her family and friends during this very difficult time.
