GH Recast Shocker: Mesure Out, McKenna in as Brennan
When Brennan appears on the Tuesday, Feb. 4, episode of General Hospital, the character will look noticeably different: Charles Mesure has left the soap, and the role has been recast with soap vet Chris McKenna.
Soap Opera Digest was the first to report the news that Mesure — who made his debut as the WSB station chief on Dec. 1, 2023 — had parted ways with GH. “Charles Mesure opted to exit the role of Brennan,” a show spokesperson told the outlet in a statement. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
Mesure’s final appearance in the role was in the Jan. 30 episode, in which Brennan and Laura Wright’s Carly spent a romantic evening next to a bonfire while in Germany — after finally sharing a kiss. McKenna will presumably pick up where Mesure’s Jack left off. “General Hospital looks forward to continuing Brennan’s exciting storyline with Chris McKenna in the role,” added the rep.

While Mesure was a daytime newcomer when he joined the soap as Pikeman Security Group head Jack Brennan, McKenna is an established daytime veteran. He began his soap career as a preteen in 1990 when he was cast as Joey Buchanan on One Life to Live at the age of 12 and played the part of Viki’s son until 1993. An all-grown-up McKenna returned to soaps in 2014 when he was tapped to play Det. Mark Harding on The Young & The Restless. That gig lasted about a year, until the dirty cop was killed off. In 2016, McKenna briefly joined the cast of The Bold & The Beautiful as Katie’s therapist, Dr. Hayden.
Since his last turn in daytime, McKenna has been seen on shows such as Good Trouble, Chicago Fire, and The Blacklist, among others, and appeared on an episode of NCIS last year. “Starting tomorrow on General Hospital — Brennan’s got a brand-new bag,” the actor shared on Instagram, announcing his new job.
Stay tuned to see if, like Brennan’s original name of John, his accent will be changed to one decidedly more American! Let us know in the comments below if you are looking forward to seeing McKenna’s take on Brennan.
